Language Courses

Starting from the academic year 1997-1998, newly registered undergraduate students are required to take a foreign language proficiency examination in English organized by the Foreign Languages School. Students who are found to be proficient in the examination or provide evidence that they have acceptable language qualifications will be automatically enrolled in the undergraduate programs. Such qualifications include TOEFL, ELTS and CAMBRIDGE FCE for English. Students who are not proficient in the foreign language are required to attend a one-year Preparatory Program offered by the Foreign Languages School. The Department offers students guidance and practice in all four of the basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

At graduate level, the language proficiency examinations are also given by the Foreign Languages School.

Turkish Language courses are organized by the Institute for Turkish World Studies-Turkish Teaching Center for foreigners. The objectives of the Turkish courses are to help students to gain a strong Turkish Grammar, writing and speaking ability at first level. In the second level to understand and comprehend Turkish Language and Turkish culture.

Ege University, Institute for Turkish Studies -Turkish Teaching Centre organized EILC (Erasmus Intensive Language Course) courses in 2004-2005 academic years as one of the five universities in Turkey. The EILCs, a scheme supported by the European Commission, are specialized courses in the less widely used and less taught European Union languages.
